The purpose of Eastern Iowa Health Center’s (EIHC) expanded Pediatric Clinic is to improve access to needed medical care for individuals aged 0 months to 21 years for those in our community with limited resources and obstacles that affect their health.
Our plan is to increase our on-staff Pediatricians from 2.5 to 5, doubling the amount of care that can be provided. Furthermore, we will expand from 7 pediatric exam rooms to 15, more than doubling the space that we have in our current Pediatric center. An expansion of our Pediatric clinic will allow our patients, who have limited transportation, to receive needed medical care more quickly, and pick up medications on-site, thus increasing the probability that patients will take their medications.
In 2025, EIHC served its Pediatric population with 8,649 provider/patient visits. With five FTE Pediatricians instead of 2.5 FTE, and 15 exam rooms instead of seven, we are projecting a conservative 16,617 visits.
Of the 22,903 children in Linn County who are on HAWK-I/Medicaid, EIHC saw 7,641 in 2024 which is 33.3% of the patients that we could be seeing. EIHC saw 5,697 unduplicated pediatric patients in 2023 vs. 7,641 in 2024, a growth of 30%. We are confident that this expansion will allow us to increase the care that is needed for pediatric populations within Linn County and our other six service areas. This project will fulfil the community need of serving more of our community requiring Pediatric care.
