Volunteer Opportunities

No One Left Behind depends on volunteers to welcome our clients to their new homes and we are constantly looking for passionate, responsible and reliable individuals to help out. Here are a few examples of common opportunities to be of service. However if you have any special skills or interests that you think would be of benefit to our community, please let us know!

Family Mentors

Mentors do not have one list of responsibilities. Each mentor experience is unique depending the skills and interests of you and your family. No One Left Behind will match you with a family in your area. You will be responsible for visiting and helping your family to become acquainted with their local community and adjust to the United States. Typical tasks may include helping your family write a resume, showing the family around the local area, and otherwise completing everyday tasks like opening a bank account, signing up for library cards, and more. Mentors are “first friends” to our families. Also, many of our clients have spouses who speak little to no English and can use patient friends to tutor them in English (typically with some very cute kids in tow!)

Operation Welcome Home

Some of our clients arrive with only two or three carry on size suitcases for the entire family. We rely on generous donations from volunteers in the community to help us furnish our clients homes with much needed furniture, housewares, kitchen utensils, and more. In some areas the available donations may be more than our network of current volunteers can collect and store. We are also always in need of volunteers who are able to pick up and deliver donated items (either in personal vehicles or rented box trucks).

Operation Got Your Back

After our new families are stable in their new homes, their next greatest need is employment. We need volunteers who are able to revise resumes and assist our clients in taking the first steps in their job searches and in applying for jobs. We also need volunteers who are able to assist NOLB (locally and nationally) in building relationships with employers who may provide employment opportunities for our clients.

On Call Case Aids/Drivers

Occasionally, we have an emergency or a need that falls outside of our usual volunteers or hours. These may include diverse tasks such as helping pick up newly arrived families from the airport or helping a new family go to the doctor for a sudden health emergency.
