American Day of Atonement

A civic and multi-faith gathering, reckoning responsibly with racial injustice

This event is co-sponsored by a civic and multi-faith coalition: Anti-Defamation League, Congregation Beth Evergreen, First Universalist Church of Denver, For His Glory Christian Fellowship, Judaism Your Way, Kabbalah Experience

As citizens of the United States, it is part of our shared civic responsibility to wrestle with the challenging aspects of American history, especially the ongoing legacy of bigotry and racism in America.  Doing so need not to diminish our pride as Americans, individually and collectively. We confront injustices past and present to learn from them and to respond with action in service of the common good – coming together to build a nation that more fully realizes the ideals of equality, freedom, and justice for all – in word and deed.

Inspired by the Jewish Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur (which falls on the 10th day of the Jewish year), we hope to make January 10th a day of civic learning, fasting, and acting – engaging our diverse communities in mindful reflection, dialogue, prayer, commitment, and action. This year’s theme will focus on atoning for and overcoming past and present injustices and building new alliances to foster a safer, more just, equitable, and peaceful future for all Americans.

When: Friday, January 10, 2025 from 6-7 PM PM Mountain Time.

Where: In person at First Universalist Church of Denver and livestreamed (link provided upon registration)
