Tribute in Memory of Doris Sloan

Doris Sloan

On September 20, at the age of 85, Doris Sloan passed away with her daughters by her side. A long time Edina resident, Doris was a teacher in Dist. 287 (west metro) and taught students with hearing loss and was president of the teachers’ union. In addition, she volunteered with Edina Community Education teaching adult English-language learners. Doris had a gift to understand the needs of others and was devoted to her family and friends.

She particularly cared for her nephew Paul who was a loving joke-teller who’d call collect on Sundays to check-in with her and her family while he was in a facility for people with developmental disabilities in upstate New York. She cared about his overall well-being, his medical care and his daily life. In his memory, Doris donated to TRAIL, a non-profit transportation program that serves people with disabilities and takes them on fun experiences. Join Doris' daughters, Jennifer and Tina, in donating to TRAIL in honor of their mom’s memory as she made sure everyone was included in the fun.
