Renee Akagha
Campus Missionary

Though I was set to move across the country to begin my career in dance, God was up to something in 2013 as I reluctantly and unexpectedly stepped onto Collin College’s campus. My heart and mind were set on dancing professionally, but the Lord was set on getting my attention. What started as my first visit to a large group gathering of FOCUS that fall semester led to my entire life changing as Jesus became my Lord.
It was because of the community, pastoral leadership, and someone studying the Bible with me that I became involved in FOCUS as a student for five years. I was taught and shown that what I was learning through FOCUS was actually God’s great mission for all the Earth—to call His children back to Him and to be their Great Father.
After several years of people investing in me and discipling me, God sent me into the workplace to partner with Him at a specific dance company. It was only because of God’s Spirit and the guidance of His people that I even had the opportunity to hear His call.
After spending some years dancing professionally and doing my best to be God’s person in such a challenging industry, I became convinced that campus ministry can truly be pivotal in the lives of students. I’m now privileged to be entering my fifth year of campus ministry—and my third year at SMU specifically.
I truly could not be working with the Lord if it weren’t for the partners I have who also believe in His work on the college campus. Thank you for your investment in His work in the lives of so many college students!
