Kevin Pike
Campus Missionary

Campus ministry first impacted my life six years ago when I was a sophomore at UNT. As a commuter student, I had grown increasingly disconnected from campus and felt like I didn’t have any real friends. By the time I reached my second year, I knew something had to change. I searched online for a campus ministry to join, and FOCUS was the first one I came across—so I jumped in. It completely changed my life.
I joined a small group and found some of my closest lifelong friends—guys I still meet up with today. Just one semester later, I moved into a house near campus with some of those same friends. In a short time, I found a group of intentional, God-loving men who challenged me to get to know who God truly is. They continually asked me questions about my faith and encouraged me to see that Jesus was inviting me into a personal relationship that I never thought about before. I began to read the Bible and experience a new relationship with Jesus.
By the time I was a senior, I began to feel called in a different direction than my original major, Radio, TV, and Film. My role as a student leader with FOCUS had become more engaging and fulfilling than anything I was doing in my coursework. For the first time, I asked myself, “Could I see myself doing campus ministry full-time?” A few months later, I applied for the FOCUS internship—a ten-month apprenticeship designed to help young leaders explore that very question. I loved every second of it and soon after signed a five-year commitment to serve as a campus minister with FOCUS at Collin College.
Our mission at FOCUS is to make and mature disciples on college campuses across the DFW area. My personal mission is to reach out to young, lonely men—guys just like I was—and invite them into the life-changing community of Jesus. I was so deeply impacted by FOCUS that I can’t help but want others to experience the same joy of friendship and purpose I found. I want to open the door for others to see that real friends are out there—people who want to share life, pursue Jesus, and live for something greater than themselves. Life isn’t about chasing self-centered goals; it’s about spreading the goodness of the Lord.
I’m so thankful that I get to live out a mission that has shaped my own story in such a powerful way. Thank you for choosing to invest in that same mission. May God bless you!
