Protect the Edwards Aquifer from Hays Commons

The proposed Hays Commons development would bring 557 single-family lots, with an additional 10 acres of commercial development and a plan to spray treated sewage across the Edwards Aquifer Recharge Zone.

There is simply no safe way to irrigate treated sewage on the Barton Springs portion of this sensitive area that feeds our springs, wells, creeks, and drinking water. This development pushes forward despite clear community opposition.

Save Our Springs Alliance is deep into a legal battle to stop the wastewater permit. The contested case process is now underway, and there is only a narrow window to present a rigorous, evidence-based case proving that wastewater irrigation over the recharge zone threatens groundwater and public health.

SOS is working with an independent hydrogeologist to identify recharge features within the proposed irrigation area at Hays Commons that could act as direct conduits for pollution into the aquifer. This scientific analysis is essential to demonstrating the risks and providing the evidence needed to support our case.
