SoundWaters Salt Marsh Restoration & Education Day ~ May 17, 2026

Get muddy and help restore a shrinking oasis for Stamford’s wildlife! You can help to restore one of the last salt marshes left along the shores of Stamford Harbor. You can participate in two ways: 1) Help us in the marsh, or 2) Come for the presentation portion to learn and observe the work in the marsh.

The salt marsh restoration requires physical activity, including cutting and hauling invasive reeds from the salt marsh - a muddy, uneven terrain. SoundWaters will provide waders, tools, gloves, and instruction for everyone. Please anticipate being in the marsh for 45-90 minutes. Only 30 spots are available.

Schedule:
1:00-1:20pm - Welcome, check-in, and presentation
1:20-1:40pm - Gear up in waders and head to the salt marsh
1:40-2:00pm - Learn to identify marsh plants and how to remove invasive reeds
2:00-2:45pm - Cut, bag, and haul the invasive reeds
2:45-3:00pm - Weigh progress
3:00-3:30pm - Return to the Harbor Center, de-gear, wrap up, and enjoy refreshments
The education portion is open to all and will take place in the Cohen SoundWaters Harbor Center. Following the presentation, you can continue to the perimeter of the salt marsh to watch the restoration activities.
