When Andrea Wilson was 22 years old, she got custody of her then-eight-year-old sister, Adrienne. Andrea became Adrienne’s legal guardian and raised her for almost seven years. In May 2001, one month after her 15th birthday, Adrienne was diagnosed with stage four hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), also known as primary liver cancer. Adrienne lived 147 days. She died on October 9, 2001. Looking for a way to channel her grief, Andrea decided to raise awareness about HCC. When she realized there was not a single organization in the United States dedicated to fighting liver cancer, she founded Blue Faery: The Adrienne Wilson Liver Cancer Association. Blue Faery began operating in 2003. The charity’s mission is to prevent, treat, and cure primary liver cancer, specifically HCC, through research, education, and advocacy.
