Donate to Blue Faery to Help Stop Liver Cancer
How We Started
When Andrea Wilson was 22 years old, she got custody of her then-eight-year-old sister, Adrienne. Andrea became Adrienne’s legal guardian and raised her for almost seven years. In May 2001, one month after her 15th birthday, Adrienne was diagnosed with stage four hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), also known as primary liver cancer. Adrienne lived 147 days. She died on October 9, 2001. Looking for a way to channel her grief, Andrea decided to raise awareness about HCC. When she realized there was not a single organization in the United States dedicated to fighting liver cancer, she founded Blue Faery: The Adrienne Wilson Liver Cancer Association. Blue Faery began operating in 2003. The charity’s mission is to prevent, treat, and cure primary liver cancer, specifically HCC, through research, education, and advocacy.
Why Blue Faery
Adrienne’s favorite color was blue. When she was diagnosed with liver cancer, she had bright blue hair. When it began falling out, she bought a blue wig to “maintain her look.” Adrienne also loved faeries. During the summer she was fighting cancer, she bought blue butterfly wings and often wore them in public. Family and friends began calling her “Our Blue Faery.” The organization spells faery with an e instead of an i because Adrienne preferred that spelling. Andrea has Adrienne’s signature tattooed in blue on her inner forearm so she can see her sister’s handwriting every day.
