VolunSTAR Training

This week of service is truly unique- it is about providing what money can't buy for families. A Little Pink retreat is designed to create fun, memorable activities for families to enjoy each other and new friends. As a VolunSTAR, your job is to ensure the families' safety and well-being while enjoying the moment with them. Please carefully read and consider the information regarding your service as a VolunSTAR.

Leadership

Your retreat will be led by two amazing volunteers trained by the Little Pink staff. The leader you will report to and communicate with prior to the retreat is your RETREAT DIRECTOR. Their job is to lead you and the families through the retreat week. The RETREAT COORDINATOR is the person who plans the activities for the week and is typically local to the retreat location. They are aided by a local TEAM PINK who helps them secure donations throughout the year.

Housing and Meals

All VolunSTARS will stay in a designated house(s). The VolunSTAR houses in each location differ, but all are clean and comfortable. Expect to share bathrooms with other VolunSTARS. Laundry Resources will be available. Your meals throughout the week will also be provided. We will eat breakfast at the VolunSTAR house based on the items you request and numerous meals with families. Please let us know if you have any specific dietary restrictions. If you have unique or special items you prefer, please bring them with you.

Arrival, Training, and Responsibilities

You will get information specific to your retreat regarding arrival time. Please consult with your Director prior to making any airline tickets. You will not need to rent a vehicle. Please let us know how you will be traveling to the retreat.

Prior to the Retreat- you will receive online training as well as participate in a zoom call where you will meet your volunSTAR team.

In Person Training- Your Retreat Director will conduct an orientation and training on your arrival day as well as daily meetings with the VolunSTAR team. You will be doing many different tasks throughout the week and we want you to come into the week well rested and ready to contribute physically, socially, and emotionally with the families.

Childcare- During the retreat week, volunSTARS often are watching children for their safety and well-being. This is one of the most important areas in terms of liability and requires your focus and diligence.

Your specific role- You will be assigned a family(s) for the week. Your responsibilities will include: 1) preparing their house for arrival 2) checking in daily to make sure your assigned family's needs are met 3) connecting with families so that they feel welcome and comfortable at all events 4) serving as an ambassador for the organization within the community (start practicing your Little Pink t-shirt (elevator) speech.

Suggested Volunteer Donation

$300 is the suggested amount for a 1st time volunSTAR to cover meals, housing, materials, etc.; for returning VolunSTARS a $150 donation is suggested. Individuals donating their home for the week are exempt from the suggested donation. This donation is due 2 weeks prior to your retreat.

There are 3 Donation Options: 1) Use payment form at bottom to complete your suggested donation. 2) Mail a check to Little Pink Houses of Hope prior to the deadline 3) Create a fundraising page to help us spread the word about our mission and vision. We highly suggest asking family and friends for donations for your trip. Information on creating a fundraiser will be included in your email confirmation once this form is submitted.
